The connection between my book and historical events are the holocaust.
Germany is taking over Poland and starting to take the Jewish people's rights. The book compares to real events by showing the significance of the events that took place in the holocaust such as when they took the people on the train and slaughtered the adults and threw the babies in the air for target practice. In the beginning the people were optimistic because they were used to countries being colonized, the main character was also optimistic about it up until they started taking away their rights such as Jewish people aren't allowed to practice medicine, Jewish people aren't allowed to keep valuables in their homes.

My name is Nikolas Gaines and a couple of years ago I almost choked to death. It all happened a couple of years ago in a italian restaurant and we ordered some mozzarella sticks as an appetizer , after we had eaten a couple of mozzarella sticks, I reached for another one and i bit into it and the cheese stretched out then I separated the cheese from the mozzarella stick and I took a breathe and the mozzarella cheese got stuck in my throat and I remember it like it it was yesterday how it felt not to be able to breathe, I remember seeing everything grow dim and dark like it was fading, away I remember hearing my brothers asking “nik what’s wrong” as I was gasping for air I remember thing am “I going to die here”, I remember feeling angry that my family has not realized that I was choking yet, I was also sad that I might not be able to do all the things i wanted to do, I was also afraid, afraid of death and as the world grew darker and darker fainter and fainter and in those moments I thought about all the things I would never be able to do or see like getting a job, going to middle school let alone high school or college and right before I blacked out, my step mom put her hand down my throat and grabbed it and pulled it out and as I gasped for air I thanked her for my saving life and she said “ you're welcome,” then added “That’s what family is for.” Then she smiled and I smiled back, then we had a normal rest of the day. Because of this I believe that all life should be lived to the moment and should not be wasted. |
